History:
The installation of turbine propulsion begun with the Kaiser class released increasing amounts of space within the hulls of German warships for more heavy armaments. These ships were extremely popular with their crews, very easy in movement and stable gun platforms. Built as an improvement on the preceding Kaiser class. They were the newest battleships in the German Navy for much of W.W.I and were the first in the navy to mount

an all centerline turret scheme. The planned installation of the MAN six cylinder diesels was not carried out. They saw action at Jutland and were scuttled with most of the fleet at Scapa Flow in 1919.
